Hey guys, been reading a lot of the posts on this forum over the last few days, and I've been really impressed with how helpful and informative everyone has been with questions posted.
Anyway, the P5 is a totally new car to me, I'm from Australia, and i knew nothing about them a couple weeks ago, but done a lot of research, and just a few days ago bought one for my girl as a surprise birthday present. The choice was a no-brainer after seeing how classy and overall good-looking and well built these cars are.
Im in the process of doing a few things to it before i hand it over to her, so any help would be really appreciated.
The main problem seems to be with the brakes. I'm about to look into the issue myself and try to come to a conclusion, but thought i would throw the topic in here and see if anyone could steer me in the right direction.
Basically, after pressing and releasing the brakes, you can slowly count to 5 or so before they release again and let you drive freely. The guy i bought the car from suggested that the master cylinder needed a slight honing inside and that may fix the problem.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks!
Justin.
**Also, should have been more specific. Its a 62 P5 1A 3L

Welcome to the Forum another Aussie Warwick it's a takeover only joking Justin I should put this post in the Mechanical as it is the correct section for your problem so if you can do another post that will be great I didn't want to move it as it is your introduction

Basically, after pressing and releasing the brakes, you can slowly count to 5 or so before they release again and let you drive freely. Get the car supported with all 4 wheels free of the ground. Induce the problem and see if it's all 4 brakes that stay on, or just 1. If it's just one, start your investigations there. If it's the two rears it's probably the rear flexible hose. (It's possible that all 3 flexible hoses could be at fault and cause the problem, but inlikely). If it's all 4 then it's master cylinder or servo. Induce the problem again and slacken the brake pipe between the master cylinder and servo, if the brakes release the problem is with the master, if they don't it's with the servo.

Welcome Justin. Your girl must be a stunner, and you must love her very much, or she does not want you to buy the car, and you have got around it by saying it is for her If that is the case, WELL PLAYED. Not knowing any of the history of the car, and being as it is for someone special , it would be well worth checking all of the above parts mentioned in Harvey,s post, with the intention of replacing or renewing the braking system, you may find most of the parts serviceable but I would budget for overhauling them.

Thanks John, ill be sure to put it in the mechanical section next time. I'm new to the whole forum thing, so it might take me a bit to get going.

And Andy, all of the above on your post. haha. I've already got my self a big project, so its the easiest way to slide another in without being called out on it!
Thanks again guys.
