My SU carbs need a overhaul . Any advice please on modifying them to give a little more power . Is there a part number for bigger jets ect ?

Dean Hi Dean I am also going through the process of overhauling my carbs, You will be able get all you require through BURLEN Ltd. There is a rebuild kit (CRK 257) which will do all you require. Bob

Dean I wouldn't waste your money on fiddling with the SU's Dean keep them standard Was hoping to get a bit more ooomph John , my plans for the future are to install a mild cam and sdi heads ( modified ). I would love to get 15 % more power without anything obvious under the bonnet.

Dean Be very wary on upgrades to the V8 as I understand it, the engine is limited to the auto box. The B35 isn't that strong it will only take a maximum of 110mph. As you will see some members have gone down the road of replacing the transmission.

I think you get 20 bhp more just using the 3.9 cam. Probably another 10 on sd1 heads. So that alone should hit the target you mentioned. Staging the heads or vitesse heads would give even more.
But I agree, much more than that and it's gonna get marginal on the auto box.
If the gearbox is coming out there are lots of other options on the venerable v8.
I bet the carbs are good for 250bhp as they are though so not worth spending dosh there.

I fitted K&Ns to my SU's on the P5 but it seemed to take the guts out of the car. You know when you put your foot down to find all you get is extra noise but no go! Im guessing the extra flow has weakened the mixture to the point where it is running lean and needs resetting up with richer jets. I guess a rolling road is the answer.

My LT77 5 speed gearbox has transformed the old girl.Same gearbox as the SD1 vitesse so should take a bit more power than the autobox.Have a set of heads off a Grinnal TR8 to go on next.Dont know which state of tune they are.The Grinnal conversion apparently cost £10,000 in 1990 so I guess they must have done something.
