Also relevant to this is the fact that pretty much all of the new carpet sets Ive seen fitted end up with gaps around the edges and between the front and back carpet edges. It looks like when the edging is put on it makes the carpet too small. If I could fins a good quality carpet set that covered all the floor like the original does..I would buy one!

I bought and fitted Wadhams top end carpets myself. They were simple enough to fit (I'm not very skilled in anything manual). The tunnel was the more difficult piece to fit but just took a little fettling. I was left with NO gaps around anywhere when finished. I'd highly recommend them.

Thanks for the feedback and I am pleased you have sorted it to your satisfaction as these cars were hand built and skilled craftsmen assembled them from high quality parts but they still required the personal touch

Interesting because I was put off a set of off the shelf carpets due to the gaps I had witnessed. And I've seen plenty of Rovers like it!
So are we saying that they do fit but need fettling?
Has anyone had a set that just didnt fit and did leave gaps?

They don't look bad from Brians pictures but I bet the underlay is not stitched to the carpet using the edge binding? I may be wrong? like you Roy I have seen them fitting badly perhaps things have improved?

As John has said I bought a set of carpets from JRW and the quality is excellent and they seem to fit well the underlay is sewn into the back with the binding and I think this what John means, I have taken a couple of photos so you can see what you think.

To be honest John I would say no they are not quite that thick more like 1/2" to 5/8", I am still waiting for the correct tunnel carpet to arrive.

Fair play Brian they will look good when finished I know the binding and backing used it's hard to explain the way the originals are made if you unpick an original carpet you can see that that binding used would not be wide enough, I suppose it comes down to old fashioned quality materials and workmanship against today's need for large profit margins

Should the bound edges of the carpet be tucked under the kick panels by the doors or just resting on top of them?

Should the bound edges of the carpet be tucked under the kick panels by the doors or just resting on top of them? They should leave no gaps Alan if the venture under the kick panel I don't think that's a bad thing mine are flush but do tuck under the center console, I used the old carpet s as a template but they varied possibly due to the fact they were 100% wool and being wool Moths loved them as well as the wool moquette!!! plus we know wool shrinks if damp/wet not a problem with today's replacement carpet

I think they are designed to rest against them once they have settled down and until then they are meant to go UNDER them as they will expand and contract normally and after many years of dampness even slight will shrink. They are certainly not meant to rest on the top
