Can someone please explain.
Returning from an enjoyable day out with the family we were travelling through GREEN lights, turning left, at a T junction, approaching from the bottom of the 'T' when I spotted a cyclist to my right, who clearly decided the lights did not apply to him and continued at speed across our lane and to the outside of my car (sort of the top left hand of the 'T' At this point he decided to move to the inside and caught his rear wheel under the front spoiler of my car. Needless to say simple physics meant he continued forward, his bike didn't and we stopped.
Now I guess I could have either swerved to miss him or brake suddenly to avoid him, which could have easily caused a more serious accident. I decided not to do either.
The cyclist was somewhat miffed and told me to get 'out of his face' (I am of an age that this does not make sense) to which I declined and explained I was not moving. Anyway he thought better of it and got his slightly wonky bike out and on to the central reservation at which point I left him to it.
Cyclists? Are they trying to become the new mobile speed bumps!

He may have been Dutch! Dutch cyclists have priority always. All traffic from the right has priority. Dutch cyclists often go through red lights. At night they often ride without lights on.
Were you in Amsterdam David?! You don't say...

Hi Peter No, in Bristol. Where as in the rest of the UK when the traffic lights show red all traffic (cars and bikes) should stop. I know what you mean about Holland. When we were there in 2009 (near Doesburg) I was 'prepared' for mad Dutchpersons on bikes

Hi David,
Obviously like Dutch elm disease.Knows no boundaries! I shall have to be careful.Ilkley is close to York. Is that your SAAB that got done by a cyclist in York as well?!! Or do they just pick on SAAB's! I lived in Warnsveld not that far from Doesburg. Right next to the river, good pub with live music on a Sunday...and a shop selling English antiques so have some good memories.
As for mobile speed bumps unless we have an E-type (not sure about the F-type)or Obama's limo then I think we owe it to our conscience to try and keep all speed bumps, mobile or otherwise, between the wheels and reduce speed as little as possible.Funny how they pick an argument as well. Had a guy in a car a few weeks ago who went through red nearly hit me and then started screaming that he had almost had an accident. I suggested he drive an ambulance.
How about a new section? It's not the destination it's the journey. And those we meet on the way.
Will try and get to National now girlfriend no longer a problem.
Regards,
Peter

Motorcyclists have their moments too. Here's one I encountered on my way home from work. Captured on the dash cam in my daily driver. (Ignore the time / date stamp - I haven't figured out how to set it...)

I bought it after witnessing a collision right in front of me. I spent ages giving witness statements to the insurance companies and later to an accident investigator. It would have been so much easier and quicker just to let them have a copy of the video...

Ahh cyclists, i'm afraid the majority seem to feel that rules do not apply to them !
Constantly ignoring red lights, undertaking, weaving in & out of traffic just to get in front etc etc.
Just last Saturday on the way back from Bridport to Bristol, we had a cyclist almost touching the N/S rear wing of our car just itching to get past.
I was constantly checking to see where he was for fear of getting too close to the kerb & knocking him off.
He was dressed up in all the gear & the reason he was in a hurry became apparent as I turned the corner to go up a fairly steep hill, I encountered about a dozen more cyclists trying to ride up the hill three abreast !!
consequently, this mean't that no motorist could get past them as the road had bends in it & it would have been too dangerous to pass them.
I always understood that cyclists were mean't to ride in single file on the roads.
Motorcyclists of course, have their own special highway code, in other words.............they do what the hell they like !!!
