I expect I know the answer to my question which is "no". Inside the mechanism of the trafficator / indicator switch is a white plastic horseshoe which retains the switch in the on position until turning the wheel releases it. Mine has just broken. Are there replacements available?

Correct and never were but the Lucas part was used in many car indicator switches of the time but there were sever variants and late 3 Litres were different from early ones and also P5B's (late 3 Litre switches were used on 80/110's P4's I think

There is a replacement available from wadhams if its a Mk3. I have just fitted the second one in 7 years. Works well. My problem is the general 'looseness' of the switch. It flops about in the flasher mode; it is ok on self cancel with the new white plastic part. But it seems to me there is something missing to hold it all together. Any ideas anyone.

My floppiness was cured not by Viagra but by bushing the flasher pivot and the indicator pivot, and replacing the flasher pivot pin with a 3mm bolt, threading one side of the mount so that it could tightned a squidgen.

Small spring AND ball bearing! Tried the Viagra no effect!Past it I guess! The spring is there but no ball bearing. I woudered if the spring was knackered.Finding one may be a challenge, the switch is a right B****r to get to to boot. I will look for a suitable replacement or go for the bolt and bush! Cheers Gents.

Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedGents, I have taken the switch apart but can't see where the ball bearing goes. I was thinking it goes in the female part of the housing but there seem s to be a peg at the base which looks as if the spring should seat on. Can you advise please.

I would have thought the ball bearing would go between the spring and the D shaped roller? I am assuming there is a pin of some sort under the section with the spring?

Take a look on ebay ,there is a NOS switch on at the moment , It says it's for a mk 1 three litre , might be helpful .

Seeing how a functioning one works on the flasher function would help if any one can do a vid and post it!

In picture 1 you see a plastic backed copper disc resting on top of the spring. On the other end of the spring is in my case a nylon bolt which is pushed down by the flasher stalk.
The copper disk is prevented from making permanent contact with the terminals on the switch body (not shown) by a further, weaker spring.

Gents, Thank you for your input. I solved my floppiness problem. New plastic part from Wadhams for the indicator problem. To fix the headlamp flasher I then drilled and taped the part 'fixed' to the column, and put 2 x 2.5 mm cone point grub screws to lock the lower portion to the fixed part. All floppiness gone from the headlamp flash function and indicator function. The problems was the wear in the Attachment DeletedAttachment Deletedsmall diameter part so no way to sleeve that. The grub screws lock it in place and the indicator stalk rotates on the large diameter. The part that djm16 sleeved. May do that myself sometime to improve the repair but it works fine. Cheers Tony.
