My local Sainsbury's at North Cheam was stocking it until the beginning of the month so I'd been using it since i bought my car. Can't find anymore locally so it looks like I'm on unleaded and additive from now on.

It will run better but only if you really need the performance and can afford it. Mine did not like LRP so I have run on straight unleaded since 1999 with igniion retarded 3 deg. No pinking at all

I always use the lrp from my local sainsberys. when i first got the car the engine use to run on if taken on a long trip, but now i have swopped over it runs fine. My local garage at cobham is only 85.9 the same as most main esso garages in my area ;D mancamefirst have you tried the one at epsom? i think they still do it

Why bother with additives anyway - spend the money on higher octane unleaded

Pricey
I'll try Epsom on saturday, thanks for that.
Phil - I would have put additives in it because that's what the vendor told me, Afraid/ashamed to say i know more about as much to do with cars as i do open heart surgery. Now if anyone fancies a diy triple heart bypass, ive got a stanley knife and an old hosepipe somewhere..... ;D

I thought LRP was being withdrawn by the end of the year?

I'm giving up with LRP and additives, i've just found a garage in Reigate that still sells Leaded Petrol as part of the government agreement to allow a very small percentage of all petrol sales to be for leaded fuel. All I've got to do now is sell all my possessions so i can afford to fill the car up, because it costs £1.49 a litre

My poor attempt at irony, (or maybe that should be leady). For anyone interested in seeing if they can get leaded locally, and have no qualms about selling the family silver... www.leadedpetrol.co.uk

I find that superunleaded with Castrol additive to boost octane and protect the valves works a dream. The car runs very smoooothly and is returning an extra 2-3mpg. An observer came over to ask me how I had got the car to run so smoothly, but it turned out he was used to the V8 Buick engine.

Hi Tony There's also one listed in East Grinstead, although i haven't phoned them to check if they still stock it, or have stocks currently. The www.leadedpetrol.co.uk website lists all garages by district/county. The price is too high for me, i'm more interested in a local garage with LRP so i don't have to fiddle about with additive, albeit in the grand scheme of things thats hardly a major hassle.

LRP in my experience caused poor starting, low power in the longer term. I then switched back to leaded via a now closed down garage in West Sussex which was much better. Then at 50% full I refilled with super unleaded which made it go a bit further...
