Hello, I am new in the P5B world. I bought a P5B Coupe and have covered 1500 miles in the first month i own it. Its great fun. As i have children, i would like to install seat belts on the rear seats. Anyone has experience installing these? Thanks Regards Peter.

Peter, I have just received my two rear seat belts from Europa: www.europaspares.comThey are of the type that fit on the rear parcel shelf using the originally fitted anchor points already in place. They lay flat due to an adjustment on them that also allows for them to be used in pillarless coupes. Cost was £53.76 each plus p&p, plus vat. I plumbed for the beige colour to match my fronts (also from Europa). I have not fitted them yet but it really looks to be easy enough. The hardest bit will be making a neat hole in the rear parcel shelf finisher. JR Wadhams also sell them - in various colours aswell. As my car is semi stripped on the inside, I can take some photos if you like and send them yto you via e-mail. Regards Richard Southampton

Hello Richard,
Thank you very much for the very clear pictures. With all the mounting points more or less readily available its not a very difficult job
I need some other parts for my p5 so i think i will contact Wadhams. Thanks again Regards Peter

I have a set fiited in my saloon, black aftermarket type tho but as i have black origional ones in the front aswell they at least match!
What colour is your interior as i may have some light beigy coloured ones (match the cream leather seats), i have had them for a while for no particular reason if i havn't thrown them out when i moved (which is a possibility) you would be welcome to them...

I had a set fitted when I bought the car, but I am not all too happy with them: they look very plumb on the rearshelf en ofted block when trying to use them! Perhaps I had better fitted a pair of 'modern' belts...

RichardF: Could you post the pictures on this site so we can all see? Could you also give the Europa part number? Many thanks.

Apologies for late response. Car problems plus a multitude of other things to sort. Europa part number is: 514/30 - I chose beige to match the interior and the front seat belts. The belts I have quoted are fronts for pillarless coupes and the like but, looking at the inertia reel itself, it can be angled to suit, hence will fit on the rear shelf and my reason for buying them. I have yet to fit them I am ashamed to say simply due to pressure of work and commitments. J.R. Wadhams also sell belts for the rear and I believe in various colours. As for posting pictures here, I'll have to gen up on how to do it and also time permitting. Richard Southampton

Only the wheel arch and centre ones are fitted - they may have been left out in body repairs - the wheel arch ones can be seen from outside the car just about 62 up from the bottom of the sill

Not sure how to contact everyone but where are the fixing points?

See earlier post??
PS The underseat points are just aside the top of the centre transmission tunnel. All the mounting points should have a large pastic bung in them with a X recess like a Phillips screw.
The parcel shelf ones have to be drilled and plated to suit the belt/reel case

I have now fitted my rear seat belts. I had to drill approx 2" further back from the original mounts (already there with strengthening plates). Also, because of the thickness of the rear parcel shelf, I made up some spacers to suit from steel tubing and then anchored the long bolts from inside the boot using strengthening spreader steel plate and a stiff nut for each side. I deliberately allow the "rewinder unit" to swivel slightly on the parcel shelf so that at rest it is straight down the seat and when worn by an occupant in the seat, rotates to allow the diagonal across the torso. The fiddly part for me was finding "right-angle" mounts for the centre bits as they are completely straight in design at the anchor points and come out just either side of the centre arm rest. Hello Peter I had rear seat belts in my coupe but took them out because they did'nt look right and were a bit hit and miss when you came to use them. For instance last year when the car went for an mot they started playing up AGAIN!! and the guy at the mot garage said if you don't get them to work i will have to fail the cars mot.So after an hour of fiddling with them and getting them to work he avenchually passed it.As far as the anchor piont, from what i can remember, they were bolted in the very corner of the rear parcel shelf, drilled through the metal and bolted.Hope this helps. Phil
