Hello all I am soon (thursday) to become the proud owner of a P5B saloon in zircon blue (reg 1973..built '72 ) I can't wait!! She's lovely and I will post some piccies as soon as I get her,if it's fairly straightforward on here to do so. At the moment I have a 1971 ,dare I say it,BMW 1602 and fancied a big old luxo-barge,but I will be keeping the BM. So I thought I'd better join a P5 forum! I am a moderator over at www.popularclassics.org pop and have a look,it's an all makes forum and very lively. Anyway,hello...and roll on Thursday!! ;D

Welcome anyway - tell us more - at least it will tax free and hope you join the club - not really a comparable contest with BMW surely!

It's a different kettle of fish to the BM altogether, but both have their charms! It's a 2 owner from new car, loads of history,in very ,very good condition (not concours, but I wouldn't want that anyway) has a few sensible mods Kenlowe fan, electronic ignition, stainless steel exhaust) and the owner forked out £500 a couple of months back for a new rear bumper! Difficult to source used, are there any other spares which might be a problem? I'll be honest here and confess that I know stuff-all about the breed, just that I really like them...and fancied a new beast for this years show season! Probably not the most researched member here, but hey-ho! I just wish I could skive off work tomorrow so I could collect it then!

Welcome Newbie 02man Kenlowefankenobi. Spares are not too difficult to source and compared to what some repairs cost to modern day cars I think are generally good value. I have sent you a personal message. I have found this site a god send with loads of expert advice which is second to none. I look forward to seeing the photo's of your new accquisition ;D

Nice pics for a very nice car. Good luck with it. What part of the UK are you from? It's useful to know if there is someone local to you.

Hello, i am sure i owned your car a couple of years ago. Did it spend time in Aldburgh owned by Graham King, then in Bury St Edmunds owned by myself. David Green

Martin, it is the car, just found a valuation certificate dated 17/04/03. I will send it onto you if you send me your address. Go thro the private message or thro my website. Graham reluctantly sold the car as he was moving. I new him well and as i buy cars he offered it to me. I had it on the road for a few months and can honestly say that out of all the P5's i have driven, this was the best ever, She handled so well and i remember Graham giving us a run up the A14 in the fast lane leaving all the modern motors standing. He spent loads of money on the mechanics and the engine, braking system was always in tip top condition. The interior was very good and the only let down was the rust appearing in some panels.I presume this has been done. I had somebody pestering me for ages to break it for the engine, gearbox and interior. Thank goodness i didn't as she looks in really good condition now. From memory she was registered on 05/01/73 so was built pre 01/01/73 so is tax exempt. I think you have got a very good car there so enjoy it. I sold it to a guy in the Midlands so she is moving around a bit. David

Ah, Hello again 02 man:- typed some inane banter on the PC forum about this so won't bore everyone here as well other than to re-state that you have an example of "The World's Most Practical Classic!"
And that Zircon Blue is beautiful

I too thought I recognised it from somewhere. The dealer is in Alton Hants, and it's still advertised in this week's CCW. A very smart saloon.

Hello chaps (see it's rubbed off already ) What a great secret you guys have been keeping all this time! Lovely, lovely cars...every thing I had hoped and more. It's not even too juicy, although I have found myself "just cruuzin') and nice to know the power is there if you require. Had her a couple of days now, looked over with a fine tooth comb and I can confirm, she's very good. The only thing that lets her down is a pitted rear number plate /reversing light....any good used ones available here? Also,is a lockable fuel filler available? And (am I the only one to comment on this?) it's an ergonomic disaster inside!! I wanted to turn on the wipers on the way home, gave up in the end (found them now!) Anyway ,some pictures now that she is at home, with something O.T at the end that is feeling a bit neglected! There is now a small classic car show outside my house every day Boy,do my neighbours love me......

All the fuel filler caps are lockable from within the boot.
Nice looking car by the way.

Not many do realise the locking cap is there - the pitting of the numberplate and lamp surrounds is so common that is rare to any cars that actually get wet that do not suffer from it!
Still better ones do turn up and sometimes brass remanufactured ones are done - waste of money and time trying to find a perfect original one as if they get wet they can pit within days!

I agree about the interior (dashboard) being an ergonomic disaster. Just try and find what you want when it's totally dark, panic can set in very rapidly. With more than one classic car you'll have a great time trying to remember what's what and where. I swap between six classics and they all different, so it demands full concentration at all times.

Very true!!! I swap between the Rover,BMW,Transit,Mercedes Vito and Corsa on a regular basis, nightmare! I won't mention thinking "Mmmm thats a handy footrest, but why are my lights flashing?" It was the same when I first got the '02,I actually replaced the wiper speed switch ,convinced it was faulty because I didn't realise that to turn on the wipers in the first place you have to thwack the indicator stalk....obvious really.... Read the manual?...I'm a bloke!! ;D
