185 x 15SR or HR or 6.70 x 15 Crossplies if you dare, at a pinch 205/70 x 15. Use SEARCH set to 600 days for more options but beware 8 ply van tyres

Depends how authentic you want your car to look and the sort of use you give it. For everyday driving in mixed conditions use the recommended radials. For occasional use mainly in dry conditions use the Avon or Dunlop 6.70 x 15 as per o/e but be prepared to shell out about £150/£175 each for these They look fantastic when fitted as they are absolutely right for the wheelarches etc. I have a newish set of Avon turbospeeds crossplies on my car. If you look at the threads, you will see the subject of tyres has been talked to death over the last couple of years. Most owners have radials now.

Hello Phil I do right now have "a tyre problem" (favourite Avon 205/70 VR-15 no longer available, Michelin XWX, same size, terribly expensive...) . That's why I am having a look at the forum to see if I find an appropriate advice. Unfortunately I do only find these three entrys when using the search-button. Any idea if I did something wrong? For sure there must be more on the tyre-subject. Thanks, with regards from Switzerland. Peter

Dear elephanteers First to put it right: no I am not a ROVER rookie at all. ;D Bought my P5B in 1989, SD1 3500 Vandenplas Series 2 in 1990, but I am for the first time (yes, shame on me...) in the forum. My dear friend needs new shoes for the MOT. I had so far real English AVON Turbosteel CR28 205/70 VR-15 fitted, but these are unfortunately no longer in production. Alternatively, I could only find: Michelin XWX (the classic range) Vredestein Sprint Classic I am therefore wondering, what other P5B drivers have fitted on their Rostyles and what experiences they did make with one or the other tyre, eventually with another size. My mechanic recommended a PIRELLI P4000 in this size with a good price-value, but this tyre has in my opinion an awful design / writing on the tyre-walls. which I think can not just be neglected when driving a Classic. With around £ 200.00 for one, the Michelin is very expensive, but would, I think, optically be an appropriate tyre. Looking forward to hearing from and thanks for help. Cheers, Peter

All my classic cars have radials fitted except one and once that has been restored that will be treated to a new set. I use radials because all the cars are well used throughout the year I don't use mine once or twice a year and only in the dry. I have a range of three makes, they are:- Vredestein, Kuhmo, and Nankook. The latter two are the easiest to obtain here in the UK. I cannot give a preference as they are all adequate for the job.

I agree wholeheartedly with DF above - good tyres can be got for £50 each, its Hankooks and there are others but ensure SR or VR speed rating and not 8 ply VAN tyres
Cannot undestand why you only turned up 3 on Search did you set the days number correct. This topic is probably the most frequent, you can spend up to £200 per tyre fitted if you want but it would be a waste of money. Even the best tyres deterioarte after 10 years or so and would requirer replacement with probably no discernible wear.
I very rarely wear tyres out these days just through normal W & T - they go through punctures/tracking upsrts because of potholes, but its mainly old age sidewall cracking with load of tread left on

I found the search to be poor until I change the number of posts. it is set to 10 so if you make it 1000 and also change the days you should be able to find all the posts, there is loads.
I am currently awaiting a quote for new tyres. I have verdestien all round but they are perishing so I want to replace them soon. My local tyre place is very good on sourcing and price. I will post when they have some prices for me.
