It was complusory fitment for at least static belts from 1965 on fronts seats only, but inertia reels were optional extra (like mine). Your car's original owner probably had no intention of ever wearing them so did not pay the extra and perhaps had a radio or HRS instead which were also extra cost options - or perhaps he was too tight?

Talking of which, I need a Kangol stalk to fit a P5 if anyone has one lying around. I'd buy the belt complete if that's all you have. I've tried David Green & Barry Kent but no joy as yet. Seems the Britax belts were far more common. I've 2 belts but no stalks though I've fitted a new Kangol belt complete I got from ebay.

I should like, if at all appropriate, to throw a spanner into the seat belt works. This contribution may be of no interetst, but Yuell haff to draw your own conclusions. I haven't read all the fore going in detail. It's close to three o'clock Sunday morning and I've chronic 2th-ache. The base of the B/C posts on the Saloon and Coupe are very different, and this may account for variations in the seat belt anchorings.
Many people think that the only differences between a Saloon and Coupe occur only above the waist-line, but to stiffen the monocoque, the base of the B/C post on Coupes is 'flared' with its junction with the cill. Over & out. I'm poppin' another couple of Neurofen and hitting the sack! PS Kev, Is the cream having any effect?

Thanks Glenn. I supplemented the pain-killers by finishing off half a bottle of Gordons I found in the cupboard, then a few glasses of Amontillado, then a glass or two of England's finest syrup; Harveys Bristol Cream. By the time I went to bed, I felt no pain, but suffered this morning with not only the tooth ache, but a fuzzy head to boot!
