whilst at work last week, i decided to have a little stroll along the recently uncovered abondoned railway line, i think they plan to re instate it soon. In fairness they had cleared most of the undergrowth before the mating season had begun, but i came across this lot... ......No prizes for guessing what car it was, but have a go anyway. Then i stumbled across this chap. who then showed off a bit. And what really made my day was this fella. I watched him / her for a good twenty minutes before it got bored of me and slipped off back to the undergrowth.

Nice photo's but I can't ID that car which looks as if it was hit by the last train to pass through!
It's always good to hear of a disused Railway being reopened. Whereabouts is it?

It is in Portishead near Bristol, lots of development going on, very up and coming. I also had a chat with Mr Briggs, aka Mike Baldwin from Coronation St, he drives a nice old car, nice chap. Sorry Colin, definitely not a Metro, good guess though.

I was going by the wheels.
The pulley on the engine I thought was french as it is on the wrong side for the A series engine but small french cars have 3 stud wheels.
Perhaps a larger austin model?

I dropped the photo into Google Images and did a search. Turns out it isn't a car at all, Andy. It's a haystack.

French, you are on the right track, it's the wheels that give it away. I hope there is no needle in it Warwick

I think Alan is correct, renault 5.
Had a google of the engine bay and they did use a similar pulley and wheels.
I thought they had three stud hubs but that may have been the early ones.
The pulley is familiar to anyone reading hot hatch car magazines from the 90's.

Yes I will go with a Renault 5. My first thought when I saw it was a Peugeot 104, but nothing matched, I ruled out a Renault 5 for the same reason as Colin and I thought that most of the R5 range did not have a transverse engine, the early ones were forward facing front wheel drive, like my old R12. Anyway, I think this one looked like this at one time. Oh, and the Water pump. Well done all, well done Alan. , you get a gold star.
