So I had my restoration fella round to look at the saloon ... seems not worth the cost of repairing , the only saving grace is the interiour which is in good nick, including rear ,yes you heard it folks, rear headrest!
" If your really that keen to own one and spend a bit on it, why dont you use the money you would spend on it , get a better car and have a rolling restoration, spending a bit here and there as you go ? " He Said. So I thought I'd check out the cars for sale on the p5 website .. and lo and behold an admiralty blue example with current M.O.T £3,500.
not mint mind you but the weldings been done in all the normal places it's serviced regulally
door rubber knackered but comes with a complete set of original from rover only thing the front seats stiching gone .. Ummm I wonder where I put my hands on a set?? DOH ! Plus the door cappings which are good in mine basically use mine as a donor for everything I may need . This rover adventure , which started just over a year ago has taught me a lot and the expression ' a fool and his money ' comes to mind but I always was the guy who came back from the market with some magic beans and minus a cow and I guess I always will be. Here is my list of commandments ( advice easily given but never heeded)
1. Never buy cars on e-bay whilst inebriated
2. Never buy cars on e-bay
3. Make sure you have a garage for restoration
4. Make sure you know how to weld .spray, restore
5. 'Bargain' Barn finds that need ' light restoration' invairiably cost a lot more than the £500 or so purchase price
6. Make sure you have time to do restoration ( men with new babies need not apply)
7. If you cant do any of above and need to pay some one else to do the work think about cost realisticly , I know it's a great dream but take it from me.. Two p5b's down the line cost about 2 grand , return £ 500 quid for one sold.fifteen hundred for a decent interiour and as many bits I can knick or sell of the other. I would have been better saving the dough and finding a runner with an M.O.T which is what I have now done , but imagine what I could have bought for 5 grand? Scarlett Will. P.S anyone who knows me dont tell my wife it was 5 grand as she will want to know why we still havnt had a new roof yet! Honestly I've got control of this P5b addiction , I mean I could quit tommorow .. honest.. ;D
