The tacho on my newly acquired Coupe does not work , other than to show a very slight flick when the ignition is turned on or off. I have checked all the wiring, and the internal circuitry for continuity, and have come to the conclusion that after a 15 year layup the components are past their best . I am loath to buy a S/H one as the same may well apply to it. Does anyone know of a circuit diagram for this tacho showing the resistors and caps required - I have those for the Smith's RVI tachos, but they are slightly different in design, usually using 2 transistors rather than 1 as seems to be the case here. All help greatly appreciated

Did you ever get your tach straightened out?

Well, sort of ! I bought a S/h one from David Green which works after a fashion but is inaccurate. However, it is clearly not just a problem with the instrument, as turning the instrument lights on reduces the reading to 500 rpm, and turning any lights on knocks about 400 rpm off the reading . Somewhere, there are gremlins in the electrics but since it really needs a rewire I have not got round to tracing them yet

Dry joints and degrading resistors/transistors - just old age. Standard Smiths circuitry of the time and obsolete Old Electronics and old cars do not mix and new electronics should be avoided
