I'm off to pick up my saloon this weekend coming and wondered if anyone could reccomend a reputable insurance company. Now I know thats something akin to " Hooker with a heart" or an honest lawyer but they must exist surely? I was previously with adrian flux but a mate of mine just had a minor knock in his car and the experience trying to get them to pay out was like extracting cash from the local Hebrews. I would appreciate any advice, cheers avery excited Scarlettwill

I have been with 'RH Specialist Insurance Division' who deal with 'Equity Red Star', they are in Brentwood in Essex. I am happy with them and they were very good when I wrote off the 4 x 4 some two years ago. All was settled without any pain. Their contact number is:- 01277 206912

I use brokers Peter Best and Aon Classic Car policies - both require Club membership and gives a variety of cover including agreed value, limited or no mileage restriction, business use, commuting, garaging etc. They generally do not have a No claim bonus and require use of other cars and restructed other drivers but unless you are young or have points etc they will work out a lot cheaper than modern car policies
Its matter of finding what suits you as they are all different. Do not bother with Online ones as they are unlikley to satisfy all your requirments fior best price

Age and postcode also comes into the equation for how much its going to cost. and whether its garaged or not. Most of the classic insurers will go on an agreed value, and as Phil states most do not do a no claims discount. That's probably why the premiums are lower than the modern cars.

Another insurer to try is Footman James. Last time I renewed (in March) it was £96.00 for fully comp unlimited mileage, breakdown recovery, legal protection and four other named drivers. This was on an agreed valuation of 5K. Have never made a claim so can't speak for them in that respect, but they have always been efficient when renewing cover or adding drivers. www.footmanjames.co.ukWorth a try!

And the winner is...... Footman James coming in first place with a respectable £118. Fully comp, with my missus as named driver ( yeah that'll happen.. if I suffer a major coranary and I mean MAJOR , not one of these minor strokes down one side but still able to drive!!) this price includes breakdown recovery here and abroad, agreed value , road rage insurance, anger management classess, ballet lessons , a sack of monkey nuts and a massage from Carol Vorderman. I think you'll agree the nuts and the rubdown are worth the premium alone. Scarlettwill ;D
