Hi - Does anyone have a good photo of a 3-litre steering box showing how it connects to the column? Is it directly into the box like a P4, or does it have a u/j just before the box.

There is one on here somewhere but its a circular fabric flex joint and the column is separate from the box

If you're thinking about electric power steering as the topic suggests don't just jump in because it sounds like an easy solution. If your car is fitted with a manual steering box it will be quite high geared (?). Unless the electric power steering system can also reduce the number of turns lock to lock by speeding up the existing ratio, you may find that the only time the power assistance is of benefit is when parking! I know a guy who fitted this system to his ZB Magnette as it has widened front wheels and tyres. The original rims are 4 1/2" and the car was designed to run on skinny cross ply tyres. The Magnette has factory fitted rack and pinion steering which is quite low geared. So this worked out well. Unfortunately if you're considering it with a Rover manual steering box it may not work as you envisage. I'd be looking for the lowest geared manual box available, essentially fewer turns lock to lock with the heaviest steering.
