is it worth fitting a electronic distributor on a p5? i know it gets rid of points etc: and it will probably make starting easier in cold weather, i hope lol. i was asked £50 for it, the invoice shows it was £82 with postage. the seller said he has sold the vehicle he got it for and now does'nt need it. this is new electronic distributor that has not been out of the box, from the box it's for the Rover P4, P5, 25D6 Positive Earth Electronic Ignition is this something that's just a change over i can do myself or does it require the wiring changed that i need a auto electrician to sort out. perhaps someone has advice on this and i had also been pondering changing the dynamo for a alternator but i think that would need the polarity changing to negative earth thats if there is a alternator that the power steering will fit on it as it does on the dynamo i have fitted. is it worth the expense of making these changes.

It could well just fit straight on without any wiring mods although it may need an extra ignition feed through the tube and/or a different coil. Its essential to have the fitting instructions.
However it will not fit if polarity is changed to negative earth and normal alternators will not take the power steering pump - you will have to have one of the compact C45 Dynoalts which can now be had. Also the rev counter if a Coupe will not work plus the radio of course.
My Coupe and P4 (plus the LR's) starts easily in cold weather eg last week on the standard points set-up and both have the dynamos too
