This is all back to front as I am now three quarters or more done with fixing up all the seats, leather and vinyl. The particular I feel obliged to share today is the vinyl top of the rear seat back. 60 years of sun have hardened and cracked the vinyl with the result that bits have fallen off. Fading I can cope with as I am now a dab hand at recolouring using water emulsion urethane agents from the Furniture Clinic. I made a video of working on one of the front seat backs, but I have not had time in the last six months to edit and post it on Youtube. Its on my list. A picture paints a thousand words, so the next 6 or so should paint er, um is it 3,000? The worst bit was removing the hardened crumbling vinyl using a stitch cutter and only cutting one set of stitches so that the piping did not fall off. In reality most of the stitching exposed to sun through the vinyl was rotted, so I had to pull out around 1000 dog ends of broken thread before I could even start. The next problem was that the upper run of leather on the seat back was also sun damaged and fragile, to the extent that it was easy to tear a hole in it, so I did, that is tear a hole in it. But some upholstery glue, a fabric patch and leather binder treatment saved the day. Hold on Phil, I am still working on this one! Cutting out the new vinyl panel, old panel used for marking out is visible in background: Stitching: The discoloration along the seam is from several coats of leather binder.

Its faded on our Coupe - used red spirit shoe die which made it look better and still retained the patina to match the rest
