Just looking round for some quotes for my P5 and was hoping some of you could possibly recommend some companies? I'm 23 and have full ncb and have an everyday vehicle which i use for work. Who are you insured with and how much does it cost? the best quote Ive had so far is from Norton at £166 fully comp.

It's nice to see some young blood! I still feel 20, act 17 and am as daft as I was then. I have made enquiries to the AA, Heritage (which uses Norton) and Adrian Flux (sounds like a 70's Private Investigator) Shop around is the best advice. ;D Arthuy, talk to liquid leather to discuss your requirments.

I used Adrian Flux too. ;D He also does a wedding car hire cover for £15 for the day if you use the car for a wedding.

My policy with sureterm cost £185 plus £15 for legal expenses cover back in jan for my 1974 v8 p6.
When I got the 1970 p5b coupe I swapped the policy and there was no change in costs.
I have previously fallen out with sureterm over quotes. I used to live in a cottage flat in a reasonable area with no garage. When I was moving I got a quote for garaging the car in my brick garage at my semi bungalow in a nice area. The cost was exactly the same with no justification. I am sure garaging it should have knocked a couple of quid off it.
The only thing in there favour is they were the cheapest. You will know what it is like being under 30 trying to get a classic policy especially one for a decent price.
I will be looking for a new company in Jan, one that will put the two cars on the one policy and not charge the earth.
£165 is a brilliant price.

I have just insured my 3 litre fully comp in a brick garage with my girlfriend on the policy (not that i want her to be driving it!!!) with Adrian Flux inc all cover for £120 which i cant help but bite there hand off for.
I'm sure putting your car in a garage is meant to lower the price it did with my everyday car.
Try Adrian Flux in Jan I'm very happy and got all the paperwork the next day
Oh and Glenn less of the wedding thing, that was part of the deal of me getting a P5, i could only have one if it could be used as are wedding car. i want to enjoy it before she turns all wifely and wants me to sell it to start a family or something ;D

Thanks for the advice chaps, a useful thread.
I'm also 23 and just got a quote from sureterm for £130 - far better than anything else out there on my V8 coupe.

I use Peter Best as they do not charge triple premiums for business use

Phil, have you had trouble from sureterm then?
I haven't taken out the policy yet and might want to use the car for occasional commuting - don't want to be stung!
Thanks.

No I have tried others over the years but PB always comes out cheapest by far for both my P5's ie the 3 Litre and 3.5 Litre and they only charge £10 for business use/commuting and unlimited miles. I also found that many only cover occasional commuting if at all,
My father in law also use them - the cover is actually Ecclisiastical

I don't think it's always best to buy the cheapest - you can only judge an insurance company after you need to make a claim! stick with a reputable name.

I have had claims - no problems at all. They did not cancel the policies or load the renewal either - as you say cheapest is not the best but its the underwriters that need to be vetted as its them that payup not the broker.
We also use Aon who are underwritten by Royal - I have 4 cars on the one "Early Classic" policy all with agreed values and business use etc but not breakdown cover as you get with the Peter Best insurance. The premiums for both policies have barely changed in the last 3 years but there is no No Claim Discount available either.
I am only just about paying the same to insure 7 classic cars that I was paying 14 years ago on 1 almost new Rover 820 with full NCB so I do sympathise!
I am afraid that certain insurers do not like young drivers in the wrong job so what's good for one person is not likely to be good for another

One thing I forgot to mention is that many insurers give a discount or make mandatory membership of a recognised marque club. They check this at each renewal - I am not sure what would happen to cover if it lapsed but technically on good faith the insurance contract is voided

Yes, I have come across this in the past - I also used to have to pay a 10% loading for not owning a modern car and an additional 10% loading for living in London!

Adrian flux are pretty fluxing useless if you ever have to make a claim.. they give good quotes but they do not understand the needs of classic/specialist vehicle owners at all, and they take forever to process anything. The last time i clamed/used an adrian flux policy (when someone else rammed me) was over 7 years ago and the matter was buried in red tape for ages and never resolved i never got my car fixed and it is still currently to the best of my knowledge 'being processed'. I wouldnt touch Adrian Flux with someone elses barge pole if i cared about my car.. (sorry for the rant but this was one of the most exasperating experiences of my motoring life)

Oh dear. I am a traffic officer. We will be looking out for you ! Do NOT use M3. Number plate recogition cameras Book an MOT appointment with your usual tester. Pray the brakes work properly.........remember its a single line system, so you only have one chance. I agree with comments regarding Adrian Flux and worse still, Footman James...........very happy to take your money, but not at all interested when it matters. I am with RH for both the Rover and my Triumph. £89 for the Rover and £68 for the Triumph..........not yet had to claim, so who knows ?
