Looking great! Is this the new ceramic type coating that reduces under bonnet heat? It should last forever if so! This was done by Camcoat Barry not the Zircotec slightly cheaper same results and possibly the same process as Vince mentions, comes in loads of colours and various working temps this one 900 degrees, I just wanted to fit them and forget them I was going to use the stuff from Frost but I would be doing the job again

The coating is known as 'jet hot' in OZ and is very resonably priced. It's a great thermal barrier...unlike chrome...can be polished and can be applied to used headers ,etc after appropriate cleaning. It also increases component life considerably. I've used it for several motor cycle exhausts. It can also be used for many engine components subject to heat, erosion and contamination. Sounds similar stuff Vince I think Warwick had his done "it's a few more Dollars over here"

Your manifolds look pristine John. On my VROD & 42 WLA motorcyles it's possible to touch the exhausts soon aftet shutdown unlike chrome which will melt the skin on your fingers. As its also an effective thermal coating it protects manifolds and tube headers internally and improves exhaust gas velocity. Benefits: No bluing if chrome like appearance is desired (looks more like a nickle finish and can be polished with 'autosol' or similar chrome polish.
As John states, it also comes in a range of colours including tradiional 'cast iron'. It's a great product.

Love it ;D Very satisfying work. Great to see such effort going in. A high standard to follow, which can only be a good thing. Perfect photos, how do you get that size on photo bucket? I have tried and given up, as they keep turning to full screen, or thumbnails. Those manifolds look superb, are you going to let us in on the price?

I used POR15 Factory manifold grey, and it looks excactly the same in finish. So far lasted 7000 miles, however its going darker in places,so is it begining to fail, time will tell. The manifolds had to be spotless, the ammount of hours i put in trying to clean,if they went again, what youve done looks the way to go, I am very envious of the simple but very effective fuel overflow pipe clamps.....someone should make them ....please

John,
Very nice job! You don't see many like this, maybe not even 1. There is a hole in my air filter housing near the heater motor with the dimensions of a egg. Where is it for? Both my air filter housings have it so it must be original. Is there interference with the heather motor?
Is the color for the air filterhousing you use the original one? Do you have an RAL nr for this color? Peter

As Alan says Peter there is an inverted Rubber Grommet/Seal. The Air Filter is just a silver 2k base coat and Lacquer Peter I thought you meant the Inlet? I have another one which I may get plated we will see! I am sure knowing your standards Peter you will do a super job on your P5 I see I have another clamp to make

Thanks John,
Did you use the rubber washers (nr3) or are these no longer needed with the plastic air filter elements? I am preparing the 2 side parts which hold the filter elements for zinc plating and also removed the clamps from the main housing for getting them zinc plated.
I see a clip item 42 fitted to my air filter housing which is for the cold start cable junction box. This junction box is that the the black plastic cable splitter or something electric?
Peter

I saw one of these air filter grommet on Ebay just the other day, on mine I have stuck a square piece of rubber over it. John your engine looks fantastic, but could you tell me where you bought your carburetter gaskets from, I got mine from a guy on Ebay and they are not stamped out very well and not cheap, I will not say who as the gaskets he sent for the intake adaptor are wrong so he is posting me some more I hope. PS. Just looked on Ebay the grommets are still for sale £10 each +post £2, he has 10 of them all new.

She's up and running at last, caught me out a bit I roughly set the timing turned the key and she started instantly as I was running in a new cam I had to let the engine run for 10 mins at 1750 rpm the ignition was a bit retarded and the manifolds were glowing after 10 mins switched off and when cool checked 12 degrees retarded reset to 6 degree BTDC and she runs fine I will set up the carbs etc tomorrow. I used Penrite Classic Light this time as it was the highest ZDDP which is what the Cam needs it came with the special grease which may contain ZDDP anyway?

My car would never run at 6 degrees BTDC, it would pink like mad on 95 octane, set on TDC never pinks even when pulling hard up steep hills.
