First of all I'd like to say Hi Ive just purchased a 1972 Rover P5B which I've known about for a very long time! It was purchased by the last owner approx 27 years ago so 1990 to which he stripped the car and had lots of welding done approx 21 years ago since then it has been in various storage spaces and was sold to another friend which unfortunately has been let down on storage space this is how I have now ended up with it. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedThese are are the first pics I'd seen of it since I'd first seen it about 12 years ago, which wasn't good to be honest I thought what the hell have I done! All the panels, interior, glass and bright work were stored in a Luton body which luckily was dry but the squirrels and rats had been in there! but luckily only the rear centre armrest had suffered attack generally the seats apart apart from what's mentioned above where in good condition just drivers armrest and stitching come undone These parts were collected and assessment began now the dilemma all welding has been done to a high standard, new brake lines fitted but not bled do we paint the sills, scuttle etc and fit it back up cleaning the parts as we go or strip the rest? And repaint the body fully? If we do the last shall I colour change it from the grey on grey to say black with silver roof with silver/black pinstripes your thoughts are welcomed I'll add some more pics

Welcome! Interesting project you have and i believe there are many people interested in seeing this continue. I would first fit the doors and all the panels and see how the panel fit is and see if this acceptable. These cars are not easy to repair body wise and what looks like a proper repair could give a other view when panels are fitted.

They always look bad without panels on. The good news is I'm not seeing large rusty holes! So the time you save on repairs you can spend on getting the panel gaps right! That's always fun. Best of luck with the resto, I look forward to seeing your progress

I did post a few pics of what I've done and currently doing but it's been moved to here! roverp5.proboards.com/thread/10428/ford-focus-etc?page=1&scrollTo=83622Please take a look, the rover will be on par with previous cars but may take a bit of time due to other commitments but we all know that feeling don't we! I have full access to a blasting cabinet which is a 20ft container so can get most things in it!

Attachment DeletedAnother pic inside and once battery was connected the rear fan stated which was which was a surprise at least it will be something that can be prepped and painted and not have to be sourced first due to it not working plan for tomorrow is to jet wash the suspension and start making lists of items that are nended which I'm sure will be immense

List of welding that has been done
new sills both sides inner/centre/outer
drivers rear floor
battery tray
drivers side scuttle
front inner wing repairs
rear inner wing repairs
rear spring hangers
what I can see that needs welding
passenger door bottom (probably the worst pics to follow) but not got a hole in it
passenger rear wing
bottoms of both front wings (should be an easy repair)
If the rear wing is to far gone the car came with 2 x NOS rear wings so I could use those but I'm trying to preserve them!
Im going to need 2 x rear light clusters, drivers ind lense that I can think of! And a carpet obviously but that can wait!

Impressive list of things already done. You may find that these NOS wings have a poor fit. I have a NOS front wing but it didn't fit at all. That is why these are still coming up for sale i guess

going to try and reuse the original panels as much as possible obviously
are there repair panels available for door bottoms or am just better off fabricating them to start with?

I have used 1 repair panel for the outer skin but this can be easily made. I don't know if there are repair panels for the door frame. My door frame's were pretty good and only needed some local repairs There is a u-channel for the door rubber which can rot but that is easily made. Nice that the rear valance corners have been done as these are not easy to repair. Make sure to drill some drain holes in it and spray wax in it later. Btw, the work on the Porsche looks very good.

Door frames themselves are ok just small repair needed on passenger front one which will be a simple repair and then just the bottom to make Wadhams are out of stock so some CAD (cardboard aided design) will suffice

Good that you have the engine running,it's always an incentive when things are slowing down a bit,or enthusiasm is waning to turn the key and listen. It's strange but just spending a couple of minutes taking the headlights out makes a car look quite bad and taking even a bolt on wing off makes it look even worse. If the basic structure is sound or can be made so then thats a big help,a trial fitting of doors and panels helkps to get an idea of any distortion or future hidden problems. I will look forward to seeing future reports and pictures.

Thanks for the reply kev
bolted the the doors on this morning as
1 they were in the way
2 is a good idea to check alignment
3 makes it a bit more weather proof/ dust proof/ rodent proof lol
they went on without much fuss and just need a bit of tweaking to fit perfect, obviously still need to get wings on!
Plans are to pull the engine and box, rebuild the engine and get body painted

I think that colour really suits the character of the rover P5 series.
